Safety Automation

A plant is a dangerous place, and the machine still has to make parts. The question is how to put the safety in without wrecking the rate.
We design the safety into the machine to the standard the job requires. The people on it should be able to work, and the line should stay productive.
When the rules change later, the system should be something you can modify. It should not be something you have to throw away.

The Square D “Jones is Dead!” advertisement from 1921 is an industry icon, representing a rebuke to the prevailing notion too common in the late 19th and early 20th centuries that “injuries were just the cost of doing business.” Photo courtesy of the Square D company.
Safety is part of a robot cell and the controller, not a box added at the end.
